Staffing Arrangements

Teachers do not need specialist outdoor skills to lead a visit to Hagg Farm as adventure activity qualified staff are available at the centre. Centre staff have extensive experience of residential outdoor education and adventure activities and will help plan and lead activities as appropriate for your school.

It is recommended that pupils are accompanied by visiting staff in ratios of one teacher to 10/12 pupils.  It may be possible for the place of one of these teachers to be filled by a parent or governor and/or to employ extra staff from the centre.

Curriculum Opportunities

The centre will design a programme to meet each school's specific curriculum needs.  Programmes can include for example: adventure activities; practical conservation; art and drama; geography and science fieldwork for Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level; induction residential events for Year 7 or Year 12 pupils; PHSE-focused activity weeks; PE coursework; key skills; and personal development GNVQ programmes.

High quality outdoor equipment and teaching materials are provided at the centre, and use of centre minibus.

Pre-visit leader training and planning

The teacher leading the visit needs to have attended an introductory INSET event prior to the visit to ensure familiarity with the centre and its curriculum opportunities.  For teachers already familiar with the centre, an optional one-day refresher INSET is held at Hagg Farm.  Click here for dates of the next courses.

Please apply for places on these courses to the centre.

A planning meeting prior to your pupils' visit will be arranged with you by the centre.
